Hanford attorney Fagundes gets Lemoore police endorsement in campaign for District Attorney

Kings County District Attorney candidate Keith Fagundes received a batch of welcome news recently when a number of local law enforcement agencies, including the Lemoore Police Officers Association, voted to endorse him at its January meeting.

Earlier the Corcoran Police Officers’ Association also endorsed Fagundes over current incumbent Gregory Strickland. And most recently the California Peace Officers’ Association (CCPOA) lent their support to the campaign. Earlier this month, the Avenal Police Officers’ Association endorsed the first-time candidate.

On March 14, the county’s largest contingent of police officers, the Hanford Police Officers Association voted to endorse Fagundes. The local attorney also got the endorsement of the state-wide peace officers’ organization known as Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) during its March 18 general members meeting.

“I am honored and humbled to have received these endorsements,” said Fagundes. “It’s a good feeling to see that law enforcement believes in me as much as I believe in them.”

This is Fagundes first stab at a political office. He formerly served as a deputy district attorney under former District Attorney Ron Calhoun and later Strickland. Fagundes is the son of current Kings County Supervisor Richard Fagundes.

Strickland is seeking his third term in the office. He previously served as Kings County DA before losing to Ron Calhoun in 1998 and beat Calhoun in 2010 to earn a second term.
