It was fun, food, and more at the annual Lemoore Elementary Book Fair on April 3.

The Lions of Lemoore Elementary School on Thursday, April 3, held their Spring Book Fair with a fiesta theme, and it was “nacho” your ordinary book fair.  Coordinated by the librarian, Elaine Anacleto, first grade teacher, Gloria Martinez, and the Lions Pride Partnership, the students of Lemoore Elementary were served dinner and watched dancers from Valle del Sol.

During the event families were able to buy books for their children as well as enjoy an evening together. Over 35 staff members and volunteers served food, worked the cash registers, and assisted children in finding their favorite books. Mrs. Anacleto stated, “Without the help of our staff, volunteers, and parents, we would not have been able to have such a wonderful event. The book fair is always a special night because it allows our students to see and purchase newly released books. It sparks a child’s love of reading.”

Brooke Warkentin, Principal of Lemoore Elementary agreed. “This is one of our most successful family nights this year. Students have been excited the past few weeks for this event. Students were not only excited about getting new books, but they were also exposed to cultural music and dance. We were overwhelmed with the wonderful turn out from our families.”

The Valle del Sol dance group is part of the Kings Cultural Center. They performed many traditional dances from various regions of Mexico. Lemoore Elementary’s own Monica Navarro, a sixth grade student in Mrs. Perryman’s class, is one of the dancers in the group. When discussing her performance at her school, Monica stated, “I was very excited to perform for my school so I could show my classmates part of my culture.” Monica has been a dancer with Valle del Sol for six years. “I love to wear the Jalisco dresses and get my hair all dolled up. I was glad to hear that my own school was cheering me on as I performed with my dance group.”

The book fair was a great success for Lemoore Elementary School. It brought families and staff members together all the while continuing the love of reading for our students. Lemoore Elementary and the Lions Pride Partnership would like to thank Best Buy Market, Leprino Food, Taco Bell and Allison Moore for their generous contributions to this event.

“This was such a successful event for the Lemoore Elementary community, that we hope to continue this success in the future,” stated Warkentin.
