Even though a Hanford player fired a blistering 71 in Monday’s West Yosemite League championship tournament, it was the team from Lemoore that took home the first-place championship trophy. The Tigers’ team of Cory DeRaad, Nick Andrada, Connor Ahlin, Darren Mercer, Nolan Pederson and Josh Coehler combined their scores to edge Hanford in the final standings.

The Tigers were led by Pederson’s solid five-over par 77 Monday afternoon at the Kings Country Club. Ahlin and DeRaad each contributed solid 81 as Lemoore edged Hanford in the final standings. Third place went to El Diamante.

Tiger Coach Sonia Gonzales had nothing but praise for her team. "The boys decided that winnimg wold be my early birthday gift. Today was my birthday. When they posted that we won the boys all said 'happy birthday coach.' It was a great gift. they have all been working really hard on their game and it all paid off. It was a tight race this year in league but the boys stayed focused and never gave up."

Mercer finished with an 88 while Andrada had a 94 to help the Tigers.

The low score of the day was turned in by Hanford’s Lane Pulliam who fired a one-under 71.  El Diamante’s Parth Verma had a 79 on the day to lead the Miners to their third-place finish.

The Tigers qualified for the Area Tournament, next Tuesday at River Island Golf Course.
