New Leader appoints Assembly's Salas to ag post

Newly elected Speaker Tony Atkins announced she has appointed Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) to serve on the Assembly Committee on Agriculture.

“I am honored that Speaker Atkins has selected me to serve and be a voice on the Agriculture Committee”, said Salas. “California’s Agriculture industry is #1 in the country, generating over $46 billion in revenue to our state. I grew up in the Central Valley and I have seen firsthand what it takes to cultivate a strong ag industry and am committed to ensuring this continues,” concluded Salas.

The Assembly Agriculture’s primary jurisdiction includes agriculture, agricultural chemicals, agricultural commodities and commissions, Department of Food and Agriculture, Department of Pesticide Regulation, economic poisons, expositions and fairs, food labeling, labeling of agricultural commodities, livestock and poultry, marketing law, milk and milk products, pest management and pesticides, and veterinary issues relative to agriculture.
