Tigers sweep Sierra Pacific in volleyball; San Luis Obispo Tourney up next
The Tigers had a relatively easy time of it in the final two games, but had to overcome a late charge from the Bears in the opener to begin the sweep. Early on, Lemoore led by just one at 11-10 before Wyatt connected on a solid kill to put her team up by two.
Lemoore then reeled off five straight points to lead 16-10 when Wyatt came up with a clean block to spoil a Sierra Pacific rally.
The Tigers were leading comfortably midway through the first game when Sierra Pacific suddenly erupted for five straight points to cut Lemoore’s lead to just two points at 19-17.
Dulany Jones broke the ice with a point to give her team a three-point lead. But Sierra scored again to cut the gap to two points again. Taylor recorded a kill for a 22-20 advantage but the Bears fought back, getting to within one point at 22-21.
The Tigers had had enough, and scored the final three points to put away the Bears.
“We tend to start off a little slow,” said Tiger Coach Rachel Taylor. “We tend to get a little nervous and tend to make a lot of unforced errors, but the kids started talking a little bit and everything ended up okay.”
Taylor gave credit where credit was due. “Bailey Kerby did a real good job in the middle. Jessica Taylor had eight aces and she had 17 kills.”
The Tigers hit the road again for one of the Central Coast’s biggest tournaments in San Luis Obispo. There will be 45 teams taking part this weekend. Lemoore didn’t fare well in last weekend’s Paso Robles Tournament where they went 2-3. Overall the Tigers are now 5-5 on the season.
