A Lemoore man was arrested and booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of stalking, making threats, trespassing and violation of a domestic violence restraining order.

It was on Monday, Feb. 16 that a female called the Lemoore Police Department and reported that her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Evan Newman, was possibly inside her apartment. She told police that she had a domestic-violence restraining order against him.

Newman and the female had been living together until a couple of weeks ago, when he was arrested for domestic violence against her, which led to the issuance of the restraining order.

Police officers responded and contacted the female in the parking lot. She told officers that Newman had contacted her via Skype, telling her that he hated her and that he would kill her and himself when she came home. Upon her arrival she saw Newman’s car in the parking lot of the apartment complex and called the police.

She believed him to be inside her apartment because he may still have a key. When officers arrived they checked the car but Newman was not there. She gave the officers her key and they tried to enter it to look for Newman but the door would not open all the way. It was latched from the inside.

The door was then closed and locked by someone inside the apartment. Officers ordered the person to open the door but got no response. Newman then called the victim and another officer was able to talk to him on the phone. The officer told him to open the door but he refused and became argumentative.

Officers repeatedly ordered Newman to open the door but he refused to comply. They forced entry into the apartment and saw him coming out of a bedroom. When he saw the officers he dropped something, which was later found to be a cell phone. Newman failed to comply with the officers’ order to get on the ground. Officers then physically took Newman into custody without further incident.

Bail was set for Newman at $230,000.
