Kings deputies use air patrol and vehicles to apprehend suspect in vehicle theft
The deputy pursued the suspect, Jones, but due to his disregard for public safety, erratic driving, and busy traffic conditions, he discontinued the pursuit after 20 seconds.
Air 1 followed the vehicle as it continued northbound on the Avenal Cut Off, reaching speeds of over 110 mph. Although the suspect, Jones, was no longer being pursued by deputies, he continued weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed.
The suspect, Jones, lost control of the Kia and crashed south of the SR-198 onramp from Avenal Cut Off. Jones took off northbound on foot and crossed over the eastbound lane of SR-198, where he hid in the foliage of the center divider.
Kings County deputies stopped both the east and westbound lanes of SR-198 to safely apprehend Jones, who refused to comply with the deputy's orders despite being given multiple commands to peacefully surrender. Jones continued to ignore these commands to surrender, and a K9 Boomer helped to apprehend the suspect. After a short struggle with Boomer, deputies took Jones into custody and treated his injuries sustained from the K9 utilization.
Deputies booked Jones into the Kings County Jail for felony pursuit, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and possession of methamphetamine. Jones’ bail was set at $95,000.
