On April 19, 2024, at about 3:55 a.m., Kings County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a shooting incident on 17th Avenue. During the course of the initial investigation deputies determined a 36-year-old man had been shot multiple times. The male was transported to CRMC and treated for multiple gunshot wounds. As of this press release, he is in serious, yet stable condition.
Kings County Sheriff’s detectives arrived on scene and began their investigation. During the course of the investigation, they identified 25-year-old Maiya Garcia as the suspect. Search warrants were authored and served in both the county and an address in the City of Lemoore.
The sheriff’s department, while serving a search warrant in Lemoore, found the suspect, Garcia, and surmised that he was in possession of precursor chemicals to make explosive materials and completed homemade explosive material. The explosive material was used in the construction of numerous homemade explosive devices. Additionally, deputies say that it appeared as if the suspect was removing explosive material from commercially manufactured illegal aerial fireworks to construct homemade explosive devices and aerial fireworks.
The suspect, Garcia, was taken into custody and is currently incarcerated at the Kings County Jail charged with attempted homicide, child endangerment, and charges related to the explosive material located in his home. His bail has been set at $820,000.
