A Lemoore police sergeant, in attempting to apprehend a suspect at a bus stop, sustained injuries following an altercation started by the suspect, but was treated and released from the hospital. On Thursday, April 16, at about 3 p.m. Lemoore police officers were dispatched to E. Hanford-Armona Road regarding a male subject in the area who was wanted on felony warrants.

The subject, later identified as 51-year-old Harvey Scott of Hanford, was described as a black male adult wearing a black shirt and black pants and was seated at the bus stop. A sergeant on patrol in the area responded to the location and contacted a male matching that description. The sergeant advised Scott of the reason for the contact and asked if he had warrants. Scott stated that he did have warrants, but that he had to get on the bus.

Instead of complying with the officer, Scott started walking away so the sergeant grabbed his shirt. Scott then turned and began punching the sergeant in the head and neck area. While attempting to deflect the blows, the sergeant was backed off the curb and fell to the ground between the curb the KART bus which had previously arrived.

Once on the ground the suspect continued to punch the sergeant and then kicked him at least one time in the head. People on the bus witnessed the assault and several of them got off of the bus and pushed the suspect away from the downed officer.

Assisting officers arrived at this time and confronted Scott and ordered him to the ground. The suspect refused to comply and began running away. He was pursued on foot and caught in the middle of the roadway, where a Taser was deployed. The initial deployment was unsuccessful and the suspect began approaching the second officer.

Scott was Tased a second time with minimal success and he continued to approach the second officer with his arms raised. He was then Tased a third time, which incapacitated him and he fell to the ground. Additional officers arrived and Scott was handcuffed and placed into a patrol car. He sustained wounds to his head and face during the fall to the ground. Scott was treated on scene by the Lemoore Volunteer Fire Department and then taken to the hospital, where he was cleared for booking.

The sergeant sustained multiple contusions and abrasions to his face and head. His injuries were minor and he was treated and released from the hospital.

Scott was found to be on Post Release Community Supervision for battery on a peace officer out of Tulare County. He was booked into the Kings County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $70,000.00.
