West Hills seeks new football coach

Head Football Coach Robert Tucker, who led West Hills College Coalinga to a 10-1 record, a conference co-championship, and a post-season bowl game last year, has resigned. Tucker said he’s been offered the top coaching position at Los Angeles Valley College.

A larger community college, L.A. Valley has 20,000 students and is located in the San Fernando Valley, serving students in areas such as Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Encino and Burbank.

Tucker, who became the Falcons’ coach in January 2014, told WHCC President Carole Goldsmith about his decision prior to commencement week.

“We certainly wish him well,” she said. “His leadership produced a tremendous season for the Falcons, one for the history books.” She said the college is screening candidates now for an interim appointment to be made in June, with plans to launch a national search later this year.
