Boys' water polo drops first WYL game to Redwood; play well in tourney

Lemoore’s boys’ water polo team finally felt the sting of defeat after racking up big wins in the preseason, which included a convincing West Yosemite League win over Hanford West earlier. The Tigers went 4-2 in last week’s Visalia Water Polo Tournament Sept. 25 and 26.

Unfortunately, one of Lemoore’s losses following the tourney came to league foe Redwood, which dropped their league mark to 1-1. The Tigers lost a close 11-9 decision to the Rangers after humbling Monache 13-9 in a game earlier that week.

Against the Rangers Lemoore led at the half 6-5 but couldn’t hold on as Redwood outscored the Tigers 6-3 in the second half.

In the earlier game Lemoore beat the Marauders 13-9 as the Tigers outscored Monache in each of the periods ending with a 6-3 fourth period.

Lemoore also lost 14-8 to Porterville but beat Tulare Western16-6 in the tourney opener and then Kingsburg 17-5. Lemoore also defeated Buchanan 6-2.

Lemoore’s next action comes in West Yosemite League play when it plays El Diamante on Oct. 7 in the Lemoore pool.
