Semi-official returns indicate former councilman Lee elected to WHC Board; low turnout

A very small percentage of Lemoore’s voters turned out Tuesday to vote for the Area 4 West Hills College District Director position, and according to unofficial results from the Kings County Elections Department, former Lemoore City Councilmember Bobby Lee narrowly beat out the appointed incumbent Len Falter.

Lee garnered 43.32 percent of the vote, a whopping total of 279 votes, while Falter finished with 39.44 percent of the vote and 254 votes. The other person in the race, Sophia Aguilar, took in 15.84 percent of the vote for 102 votes.

Off-year elections generally generate low-voter turnout as well as low interest and this year’s election, when there was nothing else on the ballot, was no exception.

Once the results are finalized, Lee will probably be sworn in at the next available board meeting. Lee, a former Lemoore councilman and Navy officer, was low key about the results, reminding himself that at this point, they were unofficial.

He also said he’s looking forward to learning more about the West Hills College District. “I don’t know enough about it,” he said.
