Lemoore High grad Dorothy Potter passes away at 95

Dorothy V. Potter, 95, died Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Hanford, California. Dorothy was born July 17, 1920, in San Benito to John “Tata” and Virginia “Nana” Altamirano. She was a very active person who enjoyed fishing and watching sporting events. Above all, Dorothy cherished the time spent with her family.

She graduated from Lemoore High School in 1938 and attended the Heald Business School in Fresno, California. She held many jobs which included the Army Air Base and Lemoore Grammar School. She also spent some time with School Employee Credit Union and Federal Employee Credit Union.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Grant Clifford Potter “Popo”, who preceded her on May 12, 2002. Together they had 3 amazing sons and 1 beautiful daughter. Both Dorothy and Grant were preceded in death by two of their sons, Michael D. Potter, who was called home on August 8, 1969, and Steven C. Potter, who was taken soon after on May 6, 1971. Years following the death of Grant C. Potter, their only daughter Virginia C. Garman, lost her battle with cancer on April 22, 2012.

Dorothy V. Potter is survived by her youngest son Frank L. Potter and his wife Sheryl A. Potter. She is also survived by her 2 son-in-law’s, David V. Cotta and Jack R. Garman. In addition, Dorothy left behind 8 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A wise man said, “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” The love that Dorothy leaves behind will forever touch the lives of many.

The graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Lemoore Cemetery under the direction of Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel.

In Lieu of flowers, all donations can be made to the Lemoore Senior Center, 789 S. Lemoore Ave., Lemoore, CA  93245 in memory of Dorothy V. Potter.
