Reigning national wrestling champion Isaiah Martinez is determined to keep winning following a stellar season during which he won the national title at 157 pounds. Martinez wrestles for the Big Ten’s University of Illinois and on Sunday he improved to 8-0 on the season and continues a 50-match winning streak.

He has yet to lose as a college athlete.

Martinez was named the Big Ten’s Wrestling Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Grapple at the Garden. The talented wrestler won three times as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the country opened with a win over No. 16 ranked Louis Mascola as the Illini routed Maryland 34-9.

Later in the tournament, Martinez pinned Michael Comunale of Drexel as Illinois won again, 31-9.

The Illini were actually trailing Princeton 9-5 when Martinez recorded another technical fall against Francesco Fabozzi to give his team the lead at 10-9. His team didn’t look back and went on to a 20-15 win.
