Lemoore’s soccer teams are off to a relatively good start with the Lemoore ladies nearly winning the Lady Tiger Classic last weekend, losing to Clovis West in the final 1-0. The ladies beat Sanger and Mission Oak in the tourney, both teams Lemoore lost to last year.

Tiger Coach Janet Brown said Kaitlynn Sweet turned in an impressive performance against Clovis West in the tourney’s championship game. She came up with a terrific save in the final minutes, but the offense just couldn’t get a goal to help her.

“We possessed the ball for the majority of the game in the final but we just couldn’t find the net,” said Brown.

The Tiger Ladies will play in the Corcoran tournament beginning Saturday. They open West Yosemite League play on Tuesday against Hanford West in Tiger Stadium.

On the boys’ side, they are 4-3-1 after the first couple of weeks. The Tigers opened their season on Nov. 23 with a 2-0 win over Caruthers and followed that up with a 1-0 loss to Edison before tying Exeter 1-1. Lemoore beat Corcoran 3-1 on Dec. 1 and lost to Edison High 7-1.

The Tigers won a pair of games, a 3-2 contest against Memorial and a 2-0 win over Hanford on Dec. 5. On Dec. 8 they lost 4-1 to Coalinga.

Lemoore will open play in the Jim Inglis Tournament at Lemoore High School and the Lemoore Sports Complex this weekend
