Tiger wrestlers hope to rebound against Blazers following WYL loss in Redwood opener

Lemoore High’s quest for a second straight West Yosemite League title took a detour recently when the Tigers fell to Redwood High School January 6 in the league opener for both schools. Redwood powered past Lemoore 49-26.

The Tigers took the early lead with wins from 112-pounder Francisco Lopez, 126-pound Esperanza Cadena, Lemoore’s female sensation, who defeated Redwood’s Noah Zermeno, and Gary Joint, a 15-3 winner over Redwood’s Tyler Showen at 132 pounds.

The Rangers turned it around and won the next 7 of 9 matches to easily outdistance the surprised Tigers. Lemoore faces Golden West in round 2 of the WYL on Wednesday (Jan. 13). The two teams will meet in Lemoore at 4:30 p.m.

Other winners for the Tigers last week included Jacob Gonsalves, an 11-3 winner in his 170-pound match and reigning league champion Angel Solis at 182 pounds. He won easily, dispatching his opponent in 46 seconds.
