Tigers improve to 11-0 in WYL, win outright crown with easy win over Golden West

It's official. Thanks to the Tigers' 85-55 victory over  Golden West Friday night, Lemoore's talented basketballers are the sole owners of the West Yosemite League championship. While the Tigers certainly want to beat Hanford against Tuesday night in the Lemoore Event Center, it won't matter in the long run, because there is no way the Bullpups can win the title.

The Tigers improved to 23-2 on the season and 11-0 in the WYL, a clear two full games ahead of second-place Hanford. The Tigers were forced to share the title last year as the Bullpups beat Lemoore in the WYL finale in Hanford.

Lemoore is currently ranked No. 2 in the Division II standings behind powerful Ridgeview High School, and if all goes according to schedule could very well end up playing the Wolf Pack in the Central Section championship. Ridgeview currently holds the best record (24-1) in the Central Section. The Wolf Pack is 8-0 in its league.

Even with their big man missing, Lemoore’s varsity boys’ basketball team managed to win at least a share of the West Yosemite League title by beating El Diamante Wednesday night 57-52. The victory guaranteed the Tigers the top spot in the WYL.

The Lemoore girls also won Wednesday night 62-42 to improve to 16-8 overall and 7-3 in the WYL.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Miners took advantage of the absence of Lemoore’s top player, Jaylunn English, making a game out of it, even having a chance to win in the final minute. However, with English missing, Lemoore’s other top athlete, Allen Perryman, stepped into the limelight, scoring 19 points including making some key plays down the stretch as Lemoore held on to remain unbeaten in the WYL.

In the girls’ game Lemoore actually fell behind early to the Miners, 19-11 before outscoring El Diamante 51-23 in the final 3 periods.
