Lemoore’s varsity girls’ basketball team’s season ended Wednesday night at Independence High School when the 18-10 Tigers failed to score a point in the fourth quarter, despite trailing by just 5 points at the end of three periods.

Independence, 21-6, outscored Lemoore 17-0 in the final frame and ended the Tigers hopes of a Division II title with a 43-21 victory.

Lemoore was led by Katelyn Cole, who had more than half her team’s points, scoring 13 in the loss.

Lemoore fell behind early in the game 12-4, but chipped away at the Independence lead, outscoring the Falcons 10-6 in the third that cut the gap to just five points.

Independence will play in the Division II title game on Friday at 6 p.m. against Bakersfield, which defeated Lemoore’s West Yosemite League rival Redwood 42-41.
