Tiger tennis rebounds after Monday loss to easily defeat Mt. Whitney

Just two days since dropping its first match of the season, Lemoore’s boys’ tennis team rebounded to defeat Mt. Whitney High School 8-1 on Wednesday. The Tigers improved to 2-1 in league play and are 7-1 overall.

On Wednesday Mike Sinaga rebounded from his Monday loss to beat Mt. Whitney’s Abraham Bonilla 6-1, 6-4, and then Drew Gobby put together a 6-0, 6-1 effort to beat the Pioneers’ Brendon Bucey.

In other action Arnold Cabuhat suffered the only loss, this to Seth Herrera 6-7, (5-7), 6-4 (5-10) in a razor thin match. Jed Santos beat Jonathan Notarnicola 6-2, 6-2 and Adrian Zamora defeated Connor George 3-6, 6-4, (10-8) in a tie breaker.

Spencer Denney beat Lalo Bonilla 6-4, 6-2 to continue the winning streak and in doubles action, Sinaga and Cabuhat won 8-5, while Gobby and Zamora easily won 8-2.

Finally, Mitchell Foote and Cha Cho Martinez, playing well together once again, won 8-3.

Lemoore's first loss

All winning streaks end eventually, as is the case with the Lemoore boys’ tennis squad, which after a 6-0 start, dropped its first match of the season to Redwood High School. The Tigers are 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the West Yosemite League.

In Monday’s match at Lemoore High School, No. 1 singles’ player Mike Sinaga dropped a 4-6, 5-7 match to Adam Miller while No. 2 ace Drew Gobby lost 0-6, 0-6 to Redwood’s Mark Garcia.

In other action, Arnold Cabuhat lost to Redwood’s Matt Erba 2-6, 0-6 and Jed Santos dropped a 1-6, 1-6 decision to Michael Watkins.

Adrian Zamora lost in a super tie-breaker to Angel Ramirez 4-6, 7-5, but the match of the day came from Lemoore’s Spencer Denney in his epic match against Redwood’s Colton Hansen, in the NO. 6 singles’ match. Denney lost the match to Hansen 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) and (13-17).

Lemoore’s doubles team of Cha Cho Martinez and Mitchell Foote also lost in a tie-breaker 8-9 (5-7). Sinaga and Cabuhat lost 6-8 in No. 1 doubles’ action and Gobby and Zamora dropped a 4-8 match.

The Tigers face Mt. Whitney Wednesday in Visalia.
