Tiger softball opens WYL at home against Hanford West

Lemoore High School’s softball team struggled in the recently completed Clovis Easter Tournament, losing 3 of 4 in the tournament, the Tigers only win coming in a Monday 4-2 win over Edison High School.

Lemoore begins West Yosemite League play Tuesday at home against Hanford West High School. Lemoore goes into the league opener sporting a 7-10 record. West is 9-6 as it comes to Lemoore.

On Saturday the Tigers opened the tourney with a 3-2 loss to Central, despite some solid hitting from Alyssa Vazquez, Sierra Phelps and Kara Tellefsen, each of whom connected 3 times. Lemoore rallied in the final frame after trailing 3-0, but could only find the strength for 2 runs.

In the afternoon game on Saturday, Clovis West pounded out a 7-1 victory despite 7 hits on the day.  Lemoore’s consistent starter, Britney Antuna, again went the distance, giving up 10 hits and striking out 7.

On Monday the Tigers beat Edison on the strength of 2 runs in the four and 2 more in the fifth.  Phelps had a pair of hits for Lemoore as did Katelyn Cole.

In the Monday finale, Lemoore dropped a 5-0 decision to Madera High School. The Tigers struggled to just 4 hits on the day.
