Lady Tigers top El Diamante Miners in West Yosemite League swimming action

Lemoore’s varsity girls’ swimming team escaped from Thursday night’s West Yosemite League swimming meet with a win, swimming past visiting El Diamante 99-85. The Tiger lady swimmers improved to 2-2 in league matches and are 4-3 overall on the season.

The varsity boys didn’t have it quite so well, dropping a 107-64 decision to the stronger Miners swim team. Lemoore fell to 2-2 in the league and is 5-2 overall.

In other action, the junior varsity girls and boys both won their matches, the girls by an 81-80 final score and the boys, 105-25.

“I'm ready to see how the season will finish in our WYL meet May 5 and 6,” said Tiger Coach Hillaree Bennett. “Our athletes are getting faster and more conditioned each week. It's exciting to see how the …athletes are gaining personal bests each week,” she added.

“We have two final meets before the WYL league meet and Lemoore will have a strong representation of athletes, and I believe we have some swimmers than can win league in individual events.”

In individual results, Christopher Bonham won a pair of events including a first in the 200 freestyle finals, racing to a 1:57.87 winning time. He also won the 500 freestyle in 5:16.21.

“Christopher Bonham is excelling each week, his 500 free style time has decreased significantly over the course of the year,” said Bennett. “He is constantly getting better each day and his work ethic and commitment to excellence is undeniable.”

In girls’ action, Katelyn Pedersen won the 100 breast stroke in 1:20.25 while Emma Souza took top honors in the 100 back stroke (1:08.95) and the 100 freestyle in 1:00.20.

The girls’ 200 medley relay team also took top honors in 2:05.15.
