Kettleman City man shot by unknown assailant early Thursday morning

The Kings County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting incident in Kettleman City early Thursday morning (April 28) about 1:30 a.m. that left a Kettleman City resident with two gunshot wounds.

It was about 1:30 a.m. when Kings County Deputies responded to a Kettleman City residence to discover Jose Barrios suffering from two gunshot wounds to his lower back and upper thigh area. Barrios was flown to Kaweah Delta, where he was treated for his injuries and is expected to recover from the incident.

Barrios told Kings County Detectives that after going outside of his residence to investigate a noise he believed to be breaking glass, an individual wearing all black wearing a black ski mask, approached him.

As the individual neared Barrios, the suspect brandished a firearm and began to shoot at Jose.  Jose stated once the suspect began shooting at him, he ran back inside his residence.  A witness statement indicated the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction after seeing several shots fired.

Neither Jose or the witness were able to provide any information regarding the identity of the suspect due to the time of night, the lighting, and the attire the suspect was wearing.  Detectives are actively working on leads to identify the suspect and motive behind the assault.
