Kings law enforcement, animal control, break up cockfighting ring near Corcoran

The Kings County Sheriff’s Department Rural Crimes’ detectives, in coordination with the county’s Animal Control Officer, put an end to a suspected cockfighting ring just outside the City of Corcoran.

In early April, the Kings County Sherriff's Office Rural Crimes detectives and the County's Animal Control officer met in regards to a possible illegal cockfighting ring near the City of Corcoran.

County officials had been receiving complaints from concerned citizens for several weeks regarding individuals entering property belonging to a suspect, Isias Serrano, 43, where cockfighting may have been taking place.

Detectives were able to gather enough information to obtain a search warrant for the suspect's residence and property, which was served in the early morning hours of April 27.

Rural Crimes Detectives and Animal Control officers from Kings County, Hanford, and Corcoran, were ultimately able to seize 76 roosters and 33 hens. Many of the roosters, sporting recent wounds, appeared to have been involved in a fight. A considerable amount of rooster fighting paraphernalia was also located and seized.

A majority of the fighting roosters had to be euthanized as a humane resolution to their injuries.

County Environmental Health officials were also called to the home after it was found to be in violation of health and safety standards.

The case has been submitted to the District Attorney's Office for a criminal complaint. Serrano faced a similar arrest in Tulare County in 2013.
