The 49th Annual East vs. West All Star Football Game was mostly a Hanford and Lemoore show. Of the 30 players picked for the West squad, 16 of them came from Lemoore and Hanford schools. There were eight Tigers on the team.

As one might recall, the two Kings County teams were no doubt two of the best football teams in the Central Section last season. The Tigers went 11-1 on the season while Hanford, despite losing to Lemoore in the West Yosemite League title game, went on to win the state championship.

The end result Saturday night? The West, powered by the likes of Lemoore’s Trey Perryman, Reggie Davis, Roger Wilson, Login Ahlin, A.J. Bow, Kyle Jue, Mitchelle Foote, and Damien Cazares, powered their West team to an easy 28-10 victory over the East Saturday night at Golden West High School’s Groppetti Community Stadium.

To further Lemoore High’s boast that it may have had the best team in the Tulare and Kings counties section, the Tigers’ A.J. Bow was named the West’s Most Valuable Player for the game.

It was Bow’s third-quarter touchdown reception from Mission Oak’s Trey McJunkin that cemented the West’s win as Bow scored from 12 yards out for a 21-0 lead.

The MVP could have gone to any number of Tiger players, including defensive stalwart Kyle Jue who helped hold the East scoreless for much of the game, or former Tiger quarterback Logan Ahlin, who tossed a pair of second-quarter TD passes, the first a 15-yarder to Hanford’s Brandon Sanchez and then a 15-yard TD to teammate Reggie Davis for a 14-0 halftime lead.

It was Roger Wilson’s long punt return in the second quarter that set up Ahlin’s second touchdown of the quarter.

The West side has a long way to catch up in the overall series. Saturday’s win narrowed the gap somewhat but the East still leads the series 25-16 with four ties.
