The Lemoore Police Department is investigating the tragic death of a three-year-old girl who was killed last week by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. It was on Saturday, July 2, at approximately 12:50 p.m. that Lemoore police officers arrived at a residence on Dogwood Ave. where they discovered the three-year-old child suffering from a head injury.

The police officers and medical personnel located the child lying on the floor within the residence with head trauma. A loaded firearm was found near the child and preliminary facts of the investigation revealed the child had sustained a single gunshot wound to the skull. The child was transported to Adventist Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.

Lemoore detectives learned that the victim child did not live in the residence where she was found, and that the injury appeared to be self-inflicted. The firearm suspected to have been used in the incident belongs to a member of the household.

The family is cooperating with the investigation, which is still ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.

The case is being investigated as reckless endangerment of a child resulting in death and negligent storage of a firearm. The identity of the victim will remain confidential.

Anyone with information is urged to call Lemoore Police Department Dispatch at (559) 924-5333.
