Lemoore High School’s Gary Joint, a 2016 Central Section wrestling champion, and a third-place finisher in the California State Tournament, will be showing off his prowess at the National Junior and Cadet Nationals, to be held July 14-23 in Fargo, North Dakota.

The annual tournament is one of the most prestigious in the United States and features Freestyle and Greco-Roman, both of which Joint will compete in.

Joint, who transferred last year to Lemoore from Kansas, will be a senior at LHS next season and will be gunning for a second-straight Central Section championship and another berth in the State Tournament.

According to Joint’s varsity head coach Marcio Botelho, the talented athlete will be wrestling freestyle and Greco-Roman. He is a Greco-Roman All-American wrestler who took seventh in the same tournament last year wrestling for his Kansas High School team, earning an automatic invitation this year.

“He left today (Tuesday, July 12) and he’s going meet up with the California team. He will have a week of training before beginning his wrestling schedule in Fargo.

He took second in freestyle at the state level during a freestyle tournament in Fresno’s Selland Arena in March, earning him a spot in the freestyle portion of the Fargo Nationals.

“It’s one of the biggest high school tournaments in the country.” Said Botelho, who also competed in the same tournament while in high school, finishing third in freestyle and fourth in Greco Roman

“He’s on a mission to get two national titles,” said Botelho.
