It was about 3 p.m. on July 6 that police responded to a report of a sexual assault on an eight-year-old minor. The victim told officers that Cervantes sexually abused the minor. Detectives took over the case and the victim was examined by a Sexual Assault Response Team nurse. The victim was also interviewed by a professional forensic interviewer with the Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center.
