Tigers fall in five sets as Hanford West spoils Lemoore's WYL opener

Despite blitzing visiting Hanford West 25-6 in the opening set of Wednesday night’s West Yosemite League opener in the Lemoore High School Event Center, the Tigers went on to lose their league opener 3-2 in a series of matches that couldn’t have been closer.

The Tigers fell to 0-1 in the WYL and will attempt to get back on track with a visit to Redwood High School on Tuesday (Sept. 20).

After crushing the Huskies in the opener, Lemoore allowed Hanford West to get back in the match, losing the second match 25-18. But Lemoore won the third set 25-23 and were looking for a strong showing and a win in the fourth set.

Unfortunately, the Huskies held on to win 25-20 and edged the Tigers in the fifth and final game 15-12.

Leah Rodrigues turned in another fine game, coming up with 17 digs and eight aces. Maddie Deathridge had seven kills for the Tigers and Bailey Borges scored three aces. Chey Cates also had 17 assists to lead Lemoore.
