Rancheria suspect charged in shooting death of fellow Rancheria resident

Kings County Sheriff’s Department Deputies investigating the shooting death of Santa Rosa Rancheria resident Loren Jeff, on Tuesday night, arrested another Rancheria resident, Justin Jeff, on suspicion of causing the death.

According to detectives, who are attempting to determine the cause of the shooting, the two men are believed to be cousins.

It was on Sunday might, a little before midnight, that deputies were dispatched to the area of East Road and Alkali Drive on the Santa Rosa Rancheria regarding a subject with a gunshot wound. While en-route to the scene, deputies were informed that the shooting may have taken place on South Road, and they were informed the name of the victim, Loren Jeff.

The victim was transported to Adventist Medical Center for treatment but was later pronounced dead. Detectives then took over the homicide investigation.

On Tuesday night, at about 8 p.m. deputies began a search for the homicide suspect. Subsequent leads had been developed leading to suspect that Justin Jeff was the shooter.

At about 9:45 p.m. a patrol sergeant made a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Tahoe. One of the passengers was Justin Jeff, who complied with officers and he was arrested on suspicion of homicide.

Jeff, 23, lives on the Santa Rosa Rancheria.

Detectives are still investigating the exact motive for the shooting incident. Justin Jeff was transported to the Kings County Jail and booked on homicide charges for the killing of Loren Jeff.
