Lemoore’s varsity football team just may have earned another shot at a West Yosemite League championship, thanks in large part to the play of Jack Foote. Foote helped lead the struggling Tigers to their first victory of the year as they improved to 1-1 in the tough WYL. Golden West will visit Tiger land on Friday night with hopes of spoiling Lemoore’s Homecoming.

The victim Friday night? Hanford West, which thanks to the Tigers, fell to 0-2 in the WYL following Lemoore’s 37-21 victory.

But it wasn’t easy, despite Foote’s prowess on the field. The talented junior receiver, running back and defensive back scored three touchdowns in the first half, including a 56-yard interception return for a score as the Tigers took a 27-0 lead into the waning moments of the first half.

Here's where it gets a little scary for the Tigers, winners of two straight WYL titles in the last two years. Hanford, 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the WYL, scored the next three touchdowns, including a 63-yard TD pass from West quarterback Richard Mendez to Desmond Howard with a little over a minute left in the first half.

Hanford West scored again in the third on a Mendez to Jacquez Marable 27-yard touchdown pass and then threw a 63-yarder to Josh Wiley to cut the margin to 27-21.

Foote – with a little help from his friends – gave the Tigers some breathing room when he scored his fourth touchdown from five yards out after helping his team march down the field.

Lemoore managed to hold the Huskies scoreless the rest of the way. A Josh Roa 27-yard field goal completed the Tigers’ scoring.

Foot was superb, finishing with over 190 yards rushing. Quarterback Jimmie Jeff also had a solid game, scoring on a five-yard burst with a little less than four minutes left in the first half.
