Lemoore’s varsity football team must have felt it was on top of the world when the Tigers took a 14-10 lead into Friday night’s Homecoming halftime festivities against Golden West, thanks to a pair of touchdowns from the Tigers’ all-around scoring machine Jack Foote.

Trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, Foote scored on a 55-yard pass from Tiger quarterback Jimmy Jeff, slipping a couple of tackles on his way to the end zone. With just a little over a minute remaining in the first half, the talented all-purpose back scored again from a yard out to give his Tigers a four-point advantage going into the second half.

But things fell apart in the second half as the Trailblazers outscored Lemoore 30-7 to extend Lemoore’s season’s woes. The Tigers fell to 1-2 in the West Yosemite League and are 1-6 overall as they attempt to get back into the race this Friday at Mt. Whitney. The game will be played in the Mineral King Bowl at 7:30 p.m.

West Yosemite League Standings

Golden West improved to 1-1 in the WYL is 5-1 overall. The Pioneers are 2-0 in the WYL, but Redwood remains the top dog with a perfect 7-0 mark. The Rangers edged Hanford Friday night 14-10 to remain atop the standings.

The troubles began early in the second half when the Tigers fumbled the opening kickoff giving the Blazers the ball at the Lemoore 32-yard line. Golden West’s workhorse running back, Ryan Cook, on a fourth and three from the Lemoore 20, busted through the Tiger defense for a first down and moments later scored on a 15-yard burst to recapture 17-14 advantage.

Still in the third period, after holding the Tigers to just four downs, the Blazers marched 55 yards for another score, this one a one-yard touchdown from Gonzalo Rodriguez, giving his team a 24-14 advantage.

With Rodriguez and Cook running almost at will, the Blazers upped the advantage to 31-14 on a Gonzalez four-yard touchdown run. Just minutes later he scored on a 50-yard run to put the game out of reach at 38-14.

With 2:43 left in the game Tiger quarterback Jimmy Jeff found Jared Holaday in the corner of the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown.

To add insult to injury, with just two seconds left in the game and the Tigers looking for another score, Jeff’s final pass was intercepted by Golden West’s Ray Escandon, who promptly returned it for the game’s final score.
