Just a year after the Tigers lost their best player, Dani Kinder, to graduation, they’ve returned with a vengeance, winning the Central Area championship Tuesday afternoon at the Lemoore Municipal Golf Course.

Dani went on to play golf for the University of Idaho, leaving behind her a very talented squad that ran roughshod over the team competition on Tuesday to advance to the Division II Central Section championships.

Lemoore shot a team-total of 467 to clearly outdistance its rivals Central Valley Christian, which shot a combined total of 536, and Monache, whose team players shot a combined 550.

The Tigers, all of them, will head to Monday’s Division 2 Central Section championships, to be held at the Kings Country Club where they will play for individual and team titles.

“I’m very proud of the improvement the girls have made this year,” said Tiger Coach Kevin Roberts, “and the hard work they have put in this year to make this happen. With a little more fine tuning we’re going to be very competitive in Division 2.”

Leading the Tigers on Tuesday was Aiyana Barrios, who fired a sizzling 86 on the 18-hole course, good enough for third place overall. The tourney’s top spot was taken by Tulare Western’s Madyson McCarthy with her 84. Second place went to Redwood’s Christine Blanco, who fired an 85.

Barrios, despite a triple bogey on the first hole, played steady golf most of the way, shooting a 44 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine. She finished the back nine with four straight pars to stay even with the course.

The Tigers’ Madelyn Alvarez turned in a solid performance as well, shooting an 88 and finishing fourth overall in the tournament. Ashley Alaniz was fifth overall with her 89. Lauren Black finished at 100 while Jennifer Alaniz and Margaret Benn finished at 104 and 1087 respectively.
