Lemoore’s varsity boys’ water polo team played perhaps the best in the West Yosemite League in the final weeks of the season, winning its final nine league games in a row, beginning with a 20-12 victory over Hanford on Oct. 5 and ending with a 17-7 romp over Hanford on Thursday, Oct. 27.

The only loss in that string of wins was a 6-5 setback to Redwood during a Clovis West tournament.

The string of victories made up for disappointing early loss to Hanford West (9-5), Redwood (10-2), El Diamante (10-6) and Golden West, a 15-12 loss on Sept. 29.

West Yosemite League Standings

Lemoore, despite its winning streak and superb play over the course of the final few weeks, finished second in the WYL behind Redwood and Hanford West, both finishing the league campaign at 9-3. Lemoore finished at 8-4 and 18-10 overall.

The Tigers hope to draw a high seed in the upcoming Division II playoffs.

This past Thursday, Sept. 27, the Tigers celebrated Senior Night with a thrilling 15-7 victory over Hanford to end the WYL season and ensure the Tigers of at least second place in league play.

In Thursday’s game senior Drew Gobby had three steals, three assists and two goals, while Calvin Rhoads finished with three steals, three assists and three goals to contribute to the victory.

Junior Cameron Olson led the Tigers with six goals and a steal while goalie Trey Pietsch ended the season with 12 saves in the game and a total of 280 saves for the season.
