Lemoore’s varsity boys’ water polo team ended its impressive season on a down note, dropping its Central Section Division II semi-final to West Yosemite League rival, Redwood. Final score: 7-5 in the Rangers’ home pool on Wednesday afternoon, Nov 16.

The Rangers, No. 2 in Division II, will take on No. 1 seed Porterville on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. at Granite Hills High School in Porterville for the Central Section championship.

While the Tigers may have lost in the semis, they made an impressive run in getting there. Lemoore got to the semi-finals thanks to its amazing season-ending league nine-game winning streak and its 10-7 playoff victory against Kingsburg in the Division II opening round.

In the playoff win against Kingsburg, Calvin Rhoads and Cameron Olson led the Tigers in scoring with three goals each. Drew Gobby and Billy Chedester each had a pair of goals.

“I am very proud of our team’s performance as we closed the season,” said Tiger Coach Josh Acosta. “Our run through the second half of league was a lot of fun to be a part of.”

In Wednesday’s semi-final, the Tigers were led by Calvin Rhoads’ two goals. Chris Bonham, Drew Gobby, and Cameron Olson each tossed in a goal for Lemoore. Tiger Goalie Trey Pietsch had 13 saves in the match while Billy Chedester and Spencer Denney had four and three steals respectively for the Tigers.

Acosta also announced that Olson, in recent West Yosemite League balloting, earned first team All-WYL honors. Second team honors went to Gobby and Rhoads while Tiger goalie Pietsch earned honorable mention status. The Tiger coach said that Gobby, Rhoads and Pietsch will play in the senior all star game on Dec. 10.
