Despite some impressive first-half play by the Lemoore Lady Tigers’ soccer team, Lemoore had to settle for a two-overtime, 3-3 tie against El Diamante Thursday night in Lemoore High School’s Tiger Stadium.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-1-1 in the West Yosemite League and 6-5-1 overall. Lemoore is just a game and a half behind 5-0 Redwood as the Tigers vie for the league title. Lemoore takes on Golden West on Jan. 10 in Visalia in a 6 p.m. game. The Blazers are 3-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the WYL.

The Miners, who held off Lemoore in two overtimes, fell to 1-2-1 in the league and are 8-5-2 overall.

In the first half of Thursday’s game Kendra Hawkin scored on a breakaway on a pass from Chloe Chedester as the two teams went into the half tied at 1-1. Chedester scored on a pass from Litzy Pimentel on a breakaway in the second half to take the lead.

The Miners tied it at 2-2 later in the half. Then Pimentel put the Tigers up 3-2 on a pass from Michaela Ramirez. She got past two El Diamante players and the goalie for the goal. Unfortunately, the Miners scored near the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way, but I am very proud of the girls for playing with huge hearts last night,” said Tiger Coach Janet Brown.

In boys’ action, the Tigers fell to 2-2 in the WYL with a 2-0 loss to the Miners in Visalia. Lemoore is 7-8-2 overall and will tackle Golden West in a home contest on Jan. 10 at 6 p.m.
