Three Tiger wrestlers place high in Central Valley's Doc Buchanan Invitational
Angel Solis (182 pounds) and Noah Wright (285) took fifths in their respective weight classes.
The host school Buchanan High won the tournament, amassing 216 points. Second place went to Clovis High School, while Lemoore managed an impressive 17th overall.
Joint made it all the way to the semi-finals before running into Pomona (Colorado) wrestler Theorius Robison who edged Joint in a close match 5-4. In the quarter-finals the talented Tiger beat Ozuna 2-1, the first of his two matches with the Frontier wrestler.
In the Round of 16 Joint beat Gilroy’s Daniel Vizcara 5-4.
At 182 pounds, Angel Solis dispatched Santa Ana’s Juan Espinosa in the Round of 16 and followed up with a 5-2 victory over Sultana’s Dylan Turkowski. He lost his bid for a title when Oakdale’s Colbey Harlan beat the Lemoore wrestler 6-2.
Wright earned his fifth-place finish when he began with a win over Ryan Higginbotham (Modesto Christian) in the Round of 16. He followed that up by pinning Del Oro’s Pablo Miller at the 1:56 mark. Wright lost his semi-final match to Delhi’s Jesus Flores. Flores went on to lose in the title match to Seth Nevills (Clovis), the eventual champion.
At 145 pounds, Lemoore’s Greg Guzman won his opening match on Saturday, defeating Clovis West’s Ray Aranda 6-4, earning a quarter-final slot where he lost to Los Gatos wrestler Alexander Escudero.
