Lemoore High School’s boys’ tennis season got underway at Dinuba yesterday (Feb. 15), the Tigers coming away with their first win, beating the Emperors 6-3 and JVs winning 4-1.
In varsity play, Lemoore’s top ace, Spencer Denney dropped his match to Jacob Navarro 6-9. The Tigers No. 2 player, Drew Gobby, beat Eric Castreion 8-3, and No. 3 on the list, Jan Cunanan, lost a 5-8 match to Ulises Ramirez.
In other action, Lemoore’s Arnold Cabuhat beat Suichpreet Sidhu 8-0, and Earl Magno beat Juan Magdalena in a tie breaker 8-7 (7-4). Collin Bresenio, Lemoore’s No. 6 singles player beat Daniel Villarreal 8-1.
In doubles action, Gobby/Denney paired at the No. 1 spot but lost to Navarro/Castreion 6-8. Cunanan/Cabuhat beat Ramirez/Sidhu 8-2. Vincent Cam and Connor Riley paired up to narrowly beat Montes/ Barrientos in a tie break 8-7(9-7).
LHS will be back on the courts at home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Corcoran and then Thursday against Tulare on its home courts.
