For the second straight week, a pair of Lemoore wrestlers and one fiery 106-pound Lady Tiger, have reached the semi-finals of a tournament that decides who will battle for a state title at the CIF State Championships on March 3-4 at Bakersfield’s Rabobank Arena.

The Tigers Gary Joint (132 pounds) and Noah Wright (285) are slated to wrestle in today’s (Feb. 25) semifinals beginning at about 11:30 a.m.

At the CIF Girls' Wrestling Championships, being held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 25) at Visalia's Convention Center, Lemoore's Angelita Sanchez is just two steps away from a state title. She beat Long Beach's Katherine Gonzales 11-3 to earn the right to wrestle Corona's Sugey Ceja in a semifinal match on Saturday.

Several other wrestlers, Joe Romero (138), Greg Guzman (145), Angel Solis (182), and Jacob Gonsalves (195) were still in the hunt for a spot in the CIF Championships. As of Saturday morning, the talented Tigers were in the third-place bracket.

Joint will wrestle Frontier’s Elijah Ozuna in a semifinal while Wright will tackle the formidable Seth Nevills, a Clovis 285-pounder who has never lost a high school match in nearly three years.
