Lemoore’s Angelita Sanchez parlayed a bye and two wins into a sixth-place finish at the CIF California State Girls’ Wrestling Championships Saturday at the Visalia Convention Center.

In the second round, Sanchez, at 106 pounds, defeated Danielle Garcia with a pin in the first period before winning a decision over Katherine Gonzales in round three before dropping a match to Sugey Ceja in the semifinals.

Lemoore’s only other wrestler at State was Eunique Barnes, who following a first round bye, lost her first match to Esmerelda Zamudio.

Both Barnes and Sanchez won West Yosemite League titles just wo weeks ago.

Lemoore’s cross-valley rival, Selma, won its second straight CIF State wrestling title, clearly dominating the competition in Visalia. Five Bears placed at the weekend’s two-day tournament as Selma amassed 111 points to clearly outdistance Corona’s 83 points.
