The Tigers are back on track. After a disappointing season opener, last week against Clovis East, Lemoore’s varsity girls’ softball team, buoyed by a grand slam off the bat of freshman Susannah Campos, pounded out a 13-4 victory over visiting Tulare Union Tuesday afternoon.

The win improved the Tigers’ record to 1-1 as they take on San Joaquin Memorial on Friday at 12:15 p.m. in the start of the Edison Classic Tournament. The Tigers are slated to play Kerman High School later in the day (3:45 p.m.) and on Saturday are scheduled to play Caruthers (11:15 a.m.) and Liberty High at 2:45 p.m.

It was in the bottom of the third inning and bases loaded, with two outs, that Lemoore’s freshman, Campos blasted a line drive over the centerfield fence to break a 4-4 tie and up Lemoore’s advantage to 8-4.

Nicole Antuna entered the game in the first inning with one out to get the win on the mound for the Tigers. She went nearly six innings, striking out eight and allowing just four hits. Megan Ambriz went three for four in the game while Kendra Hawken and Katelyn Cole each had two hits on the day.
