Tigers improve to 2-1 in tennis action

Lemoore’s varsity boys’ tennis team is 2-1 following a 6-3 victory over a tough Sierra Pacific squad on Tuesday at Lemoore High School, despite a loss by No. 1 singles player Spencer Denney. Denney lost to Mitchell Miya, 2-8.

The Tigers’ next match will be in Morro Bay in the annual California Boys’ Tennis Classic beginning Friday in Fresno.

In other action on Tuesday, No. 2 player Drew Gobby beat J.C. Roa 8-2 and Arnold Cabuhat won his match, an easy 8-1 victory over Jose Cuevas. In other action Jan Cunanan lost to Jackie Gong 1`-8 and No. 5 player Earl Magno beat Kevin Wilson 8-2.

In No. 1 doubles action, Denney and Gobby teamed up to beat Miya and Roa in an exciting match, 8-5.  Magno and Bresenio wound up losing to Gong and Wilson in doubles 5-8.  Finally, Vincent Cam and Matt Crisci won 8-6 in their doubles match. 

The Lemoore junior varsity team remains undefeated at 5-0 following its decisive win. The Tigers begin league play on Monday with a home match against Hanford West at 4 p.m.
