Tigers take second California Classic Tennis Tourney in a row

Lemoore’s varsity boys’ tennis team won its second California Classic Tennis Tournament in a row this past weekend (March 3-4) in Fresno.

The Tigers competed against 15 teams in its division beginning on Friday when they took the courts at Central West High School against Morro Bay, Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, and Frontier.  Lemoore got decisive wins from Drew Gobby, 6-3, 6-1 and Arnold Cabuhat, 6-1, 0-6, 11-9 to beat Morro Bay 5-1.

In doubles play, Earl Magno and Collin Bresenio won their match 6-2, 6-4 while Jan Cunanan and Adrian Zamora coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Vincent Cam and Matthew Crisci also won 6-0, 6-0.

Lemoore lost to a very tough Sacred Heart with a couple of close matches.

 The Tigers got back on track with a win against Frontier, winning 5-1 with wins from Spencer Denney 6-4, 6-2, Drew Gobby 6-2, 6-2, and Arnold Cabuhat 6-3, 6-0 in singles.

Cunanan and Zamora won 6-2, 6-3 in doubles play, as did partners Cam and Crisci, who won 6-1, 6-4.  That put Lemoore in Saturday’s championship round against Central, Turlock, and Tehachapi high schools.  Lemoore beat Central 5-1 after a marathon tie breaker which ended with Adrian Zamora and Collin Bresenio on top at 18-16 after split sets 6-1,3-6.

Other wins came from Denney 6-3, 6-4 and Gobby 6-2, 6-2.  In doubles, Cabuhat and Magno won 6-4, 7-5 and then Cam and Crisci won 6-0, 6-2.  Turlock beat Tehachapi in a close one to meet Lemoore in the finals. 

For the title, Lemoore beat Turlock in a long-fought battle allowing the Tigers to bring the title home for a second straight year.  Wins came from Gobby 6-2, 6-3 in singles and then all three doubles pairings won their matches.  Cabuhat and Magno won 6-3, 6-2, Bresenio and Zamora won 6-0, 6-3, and Cam and Crisci 6-3, 6-0.
