Kings County Sheriff's Office Deputies, on Sunday, March 5 at about 4 p.m. were dispatched to the Eddy Street and Carolyn Avenue area in Hanford regarding a white male adult subject reportedly looking into vehicles.  The subject was later identified as Hector Cornejo.

Upon arriving on the scene, Cornejo, 47, was identified as the suspect by deputies, and Cornejo, upon seeing the law enforcement officers, ran from the area.  Cornejo made his way onto HWY 198 running in and out of traffic causing possible traffic hazards.

A short time later Cornejo was located hiding along Highway 198 and 9th Avenue inside an oleander bush.  Cornejo refused to surrender to the responding deputies.  As Kings County Sheriff's Office Deputies moved in to apprehend Cornejo, he became combative and started fighting the arresting officer.

Several deputies intervened to assist with Cornejo’s apprehension.  The suspect continued to violently resist, at one point striking a deputy causing a facial injury, and at one point attempted to take away a Taser from one of the Deputies.  Cornejo’s violent resistance caused minor injuries to some officers.

Cornejo was taken into custody and booked at the Kings County jail for resisting arrest and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
