Tigers open league tennis play with victory over Hanford West

The Lemoore’s boys’ tennis team, just a couple of days past capturing the California Classic Tennis Tournament, took its first step toward a West Yosemite League championship on Monday with an 8-1 victory over Hanford West on the Tiger courts.

Lemoore will host Central Valley Christian on Wednesday, March 8, before continuing WYL action with a match at Redwood High School on March 13.

In Monday’s league opener, Lemoore’s top player, Spencer Denney beat West’s Robert Soriano 6-1, 6-2 to get the ball rolling. No. 2 netter Drew Gobby upended Giovanni Latarga 6-0, 60, and Lemoore’s third-ranked player, Arnold Jackson beat Jheruco Jacob 7-5, 6-1.

In other action Jan Cunanan dropped his match 1-6, 2-6, to Carlos Iniquez, but the Tigers’ Earl Magno rebounded with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Owen Lopez. Finally, in singles action, Vincent Cam defeated Adolfo Jimenez 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles play, Denney and Gobby easily beat Soriano and Latarga 8-0, while Cabuhat and Magno beat Hanford West’s Iniquez and Jimenez 8-1. In other doubles play Collin Bresenio and Adrian Zamora defeated Zach Feehan and John Botelli 8-1.
