There was a bunch of tennis played this past week as Lemoore’s boys’ team split a pair of West Yosemite League matches, dropping a 1-8 decision last Monday to perennial league power Redwood, but then beating Mt. Whitney (March 15) 9-0 on the LHS courts. Lemoore improved to 9-5 on the year and 2-1 in league play.

The only Tigers getting a win against the Rangers were the No. 1 doubles team of Drew Gobby and Spencer Denney, who won their match 8-5.

Everybody won on Wednesday, including Gobby and Denney. In all nine matches, Lemoore netters outpaced the Pioneers 96-16 in total matches.

On Friday and Saturday, the Tigers competed in the Visalia Invitational Tournament and played some of their best tennis yet. In individual competition Friday, Lemoore players played their way to three final matches. Denney and Gobby, in No. 1 doubles, breezed through the competition shutting out Mission Oak 8-0 and then besting Clovis High 8-2. The dynamic duo beat CVC 9-7 in their toughest match of the day, and beat Porterville 8-2 in the semifinals, 8-2, and in the finals, beat Immanuel 8-2, for the tournament title.

The Tigers’ No. 2 team of Connor Riley and Vincent Cam lost their first-round match against Sierra Pacifica to put them into the consolation round where they lost in the finals to Sierra Pacific.

Arnold Cabuhat lost his first match of the day to Tulare Union, putting him into the consolation bracket.  He also made it to the finals against No. 1 CVC player Cannon Hansen.  In what was perhaps the match of the night, Cabuhat lost 4-8

Lemoore’s next match was today, March 20 against El Diamante in Visalia, the hosts Golden West on Wednesday, March 22.
