Despite heavy rains that struck Lemoore earlier Friday, the show – or at least the Lemoore High School Kiwanis Track and Field Meet – continued. Not so much for local softball and baseball teams, which were postponed due to the weather.

It was a wet afternoon and evening, but Lemoore's Kiwanis Track Meet survived the weather.

Lemoore’s varsity boys’ team won the Kiwanis Meet, amassing 96 points to beat Monache’s second place showing. The varsity girls finished second overall with 84.5 points, far behind Monache’s 155 points.

The wet weather did force several schools to drop out of the annual Kiwanis Meet, leaving seven schools vying for the annual crown. With the exception of the shotput, discus and pole vault, the rest of the events went on as usual.

Big winners from Lemoore included Iyahna Jones, who won the girls’ 100 in 13.41 seconds. The Tigers’ Nathan Burd won the boys’ 800 in 1:59.77 while Christian Irineo finished second in the long jump with a 17-10 effort and third in the triple jump. Burd also finished fourth in the 400.

Sabien Jones was Lemoore’s top sprinter, finishing third with a time of 11.62. Hanford’s Jordan Perryman, a former Tiger, won the 100 in 11.28. Aidan Ecker was third in the 300 hurdles at 45.56.

Lemoore’s next meet is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19 at Hanford High School.
