Four years of hard work has apparently paid off for Lemoore High School senior Katelyn Cole, who on Wednesday at about noon, signed her letter-of-intent to play basketball for the California State Dominguez Hills Toros, that is as soon as she completes her duties as a standout Tiger softball player.

The talented senior, who has played four years of varsity basketball for the Tigers, will play basketball for the Toros and its head coach, John Bonner, beginning in the 2017-18 season. Bonner formerly helped coach at Fresno Pacific University.

The Toros may be able to put Cole to work right away. The team struggled this past season, earning a 7-20 overall record. The school plays in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

“I watched them over the past year and their program just grabbed my attention,” said Cole after signing her letter-of-intent. “The way they play the ball and just the way they play on the court grabbed me.”

She expects to play the off-guard position. Cole was accompanied by her father Charles, mom Tricia Rettig, brother Hunter, and a sister Harley. Cole also plays softball for the Tigers and carries about a 3.8 grade point average.

Also on hand Wednesday was Miguel Macias, her basketball coach for the past four years. “I’m very proud of Katelyn and I’m excited to see her play at the next level,” he said. Macias told the 30 or so attendees in the school’s event center that Cole was a first-team West Yosemite League selection and will play in the upcoming city-county all-star basketball game.
