Lemoore High School’s varsity boys’ tennis team took another step toward a Central Section team championship by defeating Ridgeview High School Tuesday night on the Tigers’ courts. Lemoore easily got past the Wolfpack 7-2.

The Tigers have a date at No. 1 seed Central Valley Christian on Thursday in the semifinals. Lemoore has an impressive record going into Thursday’s match, finishing at 18-6 overall and 10-2 in the West Yosemite League.

On Thursday in singles’ play, the dependable Spencer Denney beat Ridgeview’s Rene Salas 7-6(7-2), 6-0 while Drew Gobby crushed Ridgeview’s Jonathan Lun 6-0, 6-0.

Arnold Cabuhat beat Raja Kumar 6-2, 6-1.  Earl Magno defeated Salvador Ramirez in a super tie breaker 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

Lemoore’s Collin Bresenio beat Victor Guadian 6-3, 6-3, but unfortunately Vincent Cam lost to Daniel Key 3-6, 5-7.

Lemoore High won the overall match based on its singles play, but performed well in doubles action as well. The Tiger duo of Denney and Gobby continued their winning ways with an 8-2 victory.  Magno and Bresenio struggled early and lost 6-8 at No. 2 doubles, but Connor Riley and Jan Cunanan battled to win 8-6 in the Tigers’ final doubles’ match.

If the Tigers get past CVC in the semis, the finals will most likely be held Wednesday at Immanuel High School, the No. 2 seed.

“The boys are playing well coming off WYL wins,” said Coach Carla Bow. “We went 4-5 in preseason against CVC so the rematch we know will be tough and it will be an opportunity to see who has improved more.”

The Tigers follow the team competition on Friday and Saturday with area qualifiers at Mission Oak High School for Lemoore’s two doubles teams, ranked at No. 1 and 6 respectively.
