An integral part of Lemoore’s history passed away on May 9. Sarah (Salli) E. Day, was born on June 2, 1930 and was a part of one of Lemoore's founding families, as well as a third-generation Californian and Lemoore resident. She was the second of three daughters born to Marguerite and Charles Granville (CG) Follett. She graduated from Lemoore High School in 1948.

She was mostly known as Salli by her friends. After graduating from Lemoore High, Salli married the love of her life, Travis Steed Day. They resided on the Cimarron Ranch outside of Lemoore where they raised their three children before moving to the Henley House in town, a stately and picturesque home in Lemoore where she lived for fifty years.

Salli spent a lifetime serving her community with many activities and service organizations such as Girl Scouts, teaching Sunday School and VBS, the Alpha Club, the Robinettes, the Lemoore Women's Club, the Hanford Garden Club, the City Tree Project, the Sarah A. Mooney Museum, Chamber of Commerce committees, the Downtown Revitalization Project, helping to develop the Downtown Historical Tour and more.

She cared about her community and did everything she could do to protect it and make it better. She was often present at Lemoore City Council meetings where she kept up on the latest council actions.

She was no stranger to recognition either. Her long life in Lemoore led her to earn many honors, including Lemoore’s top award, Lemoore Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1998, and then just a year later, she earned a well-deserved spot in the Lemoore Union High School Foundation Hall of Fame.

She was preceded in death in 1997 by Travis Steed Day, her husband of 48 years. She is survived by her children, Charmaine Harris of Visalia, her husband Clifton and their children Chandler, Quinlan, and Alysia; Travis Coleman Day of Lemoore, his wife Joni and their children, Travis and Marissa; Adrienne Day of Lemoore and her sons, Graham and Payne Hodgson, three great-grandchildren, her sisters Janet Dunaway of Visalia, Kay Stager of Hawaii and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Salli's life was held, Saturday, May 20 at the Lemoore First United Methodist Church, 500 E. Bush Street.  Remembrances can be made to the Lemoore Union High School Foundation, the Hanford Garden Club, or Kaweah Delta Hospice.
