Civic-minded William "Bill" Bowen passes away at 93

William “Bill” Dixon Bowen, 93, of Lemoore passed away Tuesday, May 23, in Stockton. Bill was a long-time resident of Lemoore who remained in here following a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy.

After his retirement, Bill earned his bachelor of arts at Fresno State and taught high school in Hanford. Bill was active on the Lemoore Planning Commission, Lemoore Auxiliary Police, Kiwanis, the Mercedes Club, and others.

He was a familiar face around Lemoore for years, often attending Lemoore Council Meetings and working hard to make Lemoore a better place. He was a very friendly presence who always had a smile and a handshake
Bill was married to Evelyn who passed away in 1993. He married Shirley Kurtz née Truckell who passed away in 2013. Bill is survived by his sons William and wife Melba, David and wife Bobbie, grandchildren Michael and wife Mary, Shelly and husband Gary, Melanie and Wendy and husband Keith, great-grandchildren Sean, Sara, Miles, Sophia and Ivy.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Lemoore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 822 Hancock Cir., Lemoore, CA 93245 or Lemoore Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 336, Lemoore, CA 93245. Arrangements are under the direction of Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore.
